thy shade is white
why is the color white always associated with purity or innocence?
I ask this because i watched the punisher earlier today (which by the way was a very good movie). His wife was wearing a white dress and he was wearing a white shirt, and even though he looked dangerous (and may i say scrumptious) as hell, he still had an air of innocence about him. Maybe it was the way they seemingly glowed in the moonlight and toarch light, but it got me thinking.
Why are babys always christened in white gowns? Why is the bride on her wedding day triditionally dressed in white? Why have angels always been portrayed in such a color? Why is purity associated with the shade? Why were martyers always wearing it?
And the conclusions i have come to are very basic. White is seen as 'clean'. As 'unstained' (though, ironaically, the only way to make some things white is to stain it, and thus making them weak). White is a color that becomes dirty fairly easily, and is hard to clean completely. NOthing is ever as white as it once was. In the case of martyrs, it represents the cleansing of their sins, and their ability to take on others. Thus scarficing themselves to a cause which they believe in. It also makes sense for scarfices to be dressed in white.
A blank page can become anything, can hold any story, until the first word is written and then the possibilities are drastically limited.
The clouds are white as they slowly march across the sky, and prepare to provide the continuation of life in a specific area.
An unpainted canvess, ready to absorb any and all colors which are spread across its face.
a 'good' knight, doing kind deeds and protecting the people from harm.
i dont know why i've suddenly become so interested in the shade (white is not really a color). I'm not wearing anything white or 'inocent'. Just a JDRF shirt and shorts (yep, going commando!!), allowing for my boobs to rest upon the desk. Which never happened before, braless or not (tewrrible news, but that will come another time. But if you are stupid and need to know right now, it means my breasts have grown...again...you can stop laughing now....).
but back to white. what makes it so unique? And why? this one simple shade, holding so much symbolence and memory.
black and white movies. Dogs seeing in only black, white and blue. The froath from the seas and oceans. What is it about this one that is so captivating.
My answer: no idea. Maybe i'll look into that....
